Signature Character

The Grandview breeding philosophy.

Our passion for breeding is guided by the commercial needs of our clients and ultimately consumer preferences.

We know genetic depth builds consistency and our classing and culling regime ensures selective pressure maintains our quality. Whilst many of our cull animals are considered by others to be acceptable we know that the difficult decisions advance the breed.

Our bulls must win in the paddock not just the ring and are prepared accordingly. They are never feedlotted or placed on grain buckets from weaning.

Many cattlemen believe the maternity and fertility of Droughtmaster females are the foundation of the breed's success. Accordingly, Grandview heifers must calf in their first year of joining and every year after.

More than fifteen years of strict adherence to these philosophies have developed the signature characteristics of the Grandview article.

Grandview Droughtmasters Signature Characteristics

Australia's allrounder, Droughtmasters are admired for their innate: versatility, fertility, docility and resilience.

Building on these enviable qualities, Grandview Droughtmasters have five signature characteristics.
  • 1. Balanced Confirmation
    • Even depth is a hallmark of our animals. Created by flat backs, tidy underlines, balanced bone and shoulders, substantial eye muscle and exceptional rumps.
    • Importantly Grandview cattle track well. Ensuring longer service life, greater reproductive success year-in-year-out and consistent foraging in all types of country.
  • 2. Early Maturing
    • Careful sire and dam matching through controlled line breeding has lead to progeny that develop quickly, improving breeding potential and returns for our clients.
  • 3. Natural Go Forward
    • Our animals are reared on scrub soil exposing them to both ticks and lantana. Despite these challenging conditions are cattle move forward naturally  without the need for significant: intervention or supplementation.
  • 4. Temperament
    • Droughtmaster docility is legendary and it’s a quality we promote in all of our animals. The benefits are numerous from easier working in yards, mothering, weight gain. And as we all know quieter cattle create a more desirable cut and ultimately eating experience.
  • 5. Muscling and Large EMA’s
    • Our sires have consistently been selected and retained based on muscle development and significant eye muscle area. These important attributes deliver more profit to producers.
